A search engine is a service that allows users to enter their queries and provides information in the form of Websites, images, videos, etc. The output list of pages given in the exchange to a keyword is called SERP i.e. Search Engine Result Pages.

History:

Google is an American MNC company popular in serving internet-based products and services. The company was started in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin with headquarter in California. Now the company has expanded with around 1 lakh employees all over the world. Some of the products and services from Google are Search Engine YouTube, Google Drive, Blogger, Gmail, etc.

Bing holds second place after Google and they are the biggest competitors of each other. It basically has launched to challenge Google and is running quite well. Since it is initiated by Microsoft, it is the default web browser in Microsoft PCs.

Bing search engine service started in the year 2009 by Microsoft and is available in 40 languages. Like Google has introduced Google My Business to give directions, now Bing has introduced Places. Not only in the search engines, but it is among one of the most famous Email providers in the world. It is the default search engine in the USA for Chrome Browser since its agreement with Google in 2014.

Yahoo! was started in the year 1994 by Jerry Yang and David Filo with headquarter in California. The company was independent till the year 2017 which onwards is owned by Verizon Media. The search engine started in the year 2008 with headquarter in the US to share quality over quantity. Founded by Gabriel Weinberg, DuckDuckGo emphasizes giving the best results to user queries from over 400 sources. In the year 2011, the search engine introduced its voice search service to the people of Google Chrome Extension. As of August 2021, it is receiving more than 1 billion searches directly.

The estimated revenue of DuckDuckFo for 2018 is 10 million US dollars and has received funds to provide better service by more investments.

5. Baidu

Baidu is an MNC company based in China whose Search Engine is the most preferred in the country. According to stats, it is serving billions of search queries per month with the 4th current ranking website. It provides searches related to websites, images, audio, video, maps, etc.

 

History:

The company is founded by Robin Li and Eric Xu in the year 2000 with headquarter in Beijing, China. Till then the search engine is growing steadily and right now it is the second largest search engine occupying 76% of market shares in China. Though it operates worldwide, the search engine has a better understanding of China’s culture and so offers better results for local users.

Revenue:

Baidu’s revenue for the year 2018 has been recorded as 1.8 billion dollars and is still steeping the path to more success.
